Pro Evolution Soccer 2015: First Details

Fox in the box.

The first details regarding Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 have been announced. It's coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and according to a press release "additional formats during the autumn/winter period of 2014".

This is the first time the long-running football series will appear on the latest consoles.

This year's core tenet is "The Pitch is Ours". What that translates is a whole host of new features, as the development team – based in Tokyo and recently established Windsor office in the UK – try to return to the core PES principles of "total control" and "super responsive controls".

The three key areas that have been reworked are:
  • "Exciting Goals": a new shooting system, allowing players precise control over the direction and power of shots, has been implemented.
  • "Final Pass": the range of passing available has been expanded, from "little knock-ons" to "searing low passes" – all drawing on a new physics system.
  • "1 on 1": positioning, dribbling, and the ability to beat your man have been overhauled.
These areas will be supported by efforts to make the controls faster and more responsive, improving AI across the entire pitch, and allowing more control over the ball while attacking and how players go about winning back possession and obstructing attacking play.

Next-gen versions will also benefit from what marks the "first full implementation" of the FOX Engine within the PES franchise. Xbox One and PS4 versions will benefit from incredibly lifelike players with bespoke animations, crowd animations that have been "hugely enhanced" and "context-sensitive crowd effects and movements" that react to how a game unfolds.
