Wearable will reportedly be able to make calls without a phone.
Samsung's next smartwatch may not need to rely on a phone for full functionality. The Wall Street Journal
reports that the company intends to introduce a stand-alone smartwatch
in the coming months, citing people familiar with the company's plans.
The wearable will reportedly be able to make and receive calls, take photos, and send email, and will be equipped with GPS, bluetooth connectivity, and a heart rate monitor. It is said that the device will come with a SIM card and will run Samsung's Tizen operating system, which the company also uses with its new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches.
The report also claims that Samsung is already in talks with carriers in
the United States, South Korea, and Europe about the device, which the
company purportedly hopes to announce in June or July.
