Here's How to Buy a PS4 20th Anniversary Edition in the UK

More than 500 units to be sold throughout the week via an elaborate competition.

Sony UK is preparing to sell what could be its final allocation of PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary Edition systems, with about 500 units going on sale periodically throughout the week.

Only 12,300 such consoles exist worldwide, and the bulk of general stock sold out within minutes last Saturday as pre-orders opened in the US. One day later, these custom-designed consoles fetched as much as $20,000 on eBay.

Then last Wednesday, Sony opened a pop-up retro PlayStation store in London where it sold about 300 of the highly sought systems--with the first 94 units priced at just £19.94.

Now Sony is partnering with UK retailer game to sell the remaining units via an elaborate competition.

Those who want to get involved will need to go through several steps:

1. Follow @PlayStationUK or @GAMEDigital on Twitter.

2. Study this collage, featuring more than 300 characters from PlayStation history (at the time of going to press, the webpage is down from heavy traffic).

3. Then, at certain points each day, @PlayStationUK and @GAMEDigital will tweet a clue using the hashtag #20YearsOfCharacters. (Schedule below)

4. Users will need to solve the clue, find the character it corresponds to, then zoom in so the blue cross appears and click it. If it’s the correct character, users will be taken to a secret GAME website.

5. Here, it becomes a race. The first 100 people who fill out the buying form on GAME’s secret site will have won the right to buy a 20th Anniversary Edition PS4. GAME says it will send an email confirming who’s won within 24 hours.

Tweet schedule

Those entering the competition must be at least 18 years old with a UK address. Full terms and conditions can be found here.

Finally, Sony says that those who entered the competition but didn’t qualify as one of the the first 100 entrants will be automatically entered into a daily draw where one person will be given the system for free.
