$99 PlayStation TV Launches in the US

Sony's microconsole available from Tuesday in the United States and Canada; coming to Europe on November 14.

Following its release in Japan last year, Sony launched the $99 PlayStation TV in the United States and Canada on Tuesday. The microconsole comes to Europe in one month on November 14.

The base package comes with a PS TV unit, HDMI cable, AC adapter, and AC power cord. Meanwhile, a $140 limited edition bundle includes everything from the base bundle, as well as a DualShock 3 controller, 8 GB memory card, USB cable, and a copy of The Lego Movie Video Game. If you want a different game, Wal-Mart is bundling a copy of Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time in another bundle.

PS TV has 1 GB of internal memory, which you can use for game saves or small DLC. However, Sony notes that you should plan to acquire a separate memory card (or buy one of the limited edition bundles) if you plan to have lots of game saves or DLC.

Sony announced in late September that almost 700 games will be available for PS TV at launch. The microconsole can play many PlayStation Vita games in addition to digital PlayStation One and PSP games. Through Remote Play, PS TV can be used to stream PlayStation 4 games from one PS4 console in your home onto a separate television that the PS TV is connected to.

In addition, the open beta for Sony's streaming service, PlayStation Now, is now available on PS TV, allowing users to stream PlayStation 3 titles to the device.
