New iPhone 6 images appear to show a working device with mobile payments

There's been a steady stream of leaks leading up to this Tuesday's Apple press conference, but now it appears we're getting our best look yet at the next iPhone. A user on Chinese social media site Weibo has posted a series of photos (via cnBeta) that purport to show a fully-functional, activated iPhone 6. While the authenticity of the photos can not be confirmed, the images do not appear to be tampered. The leaker has also uploaded a brief video demonstrating Touch ID on the device, suggesting the this is, in fact, a legitimate iPhone 6.

The images appear to depict a new iPhone with roughly a 4.7-inch screen. This isn't the first time we've seen this device — several earlier part leaks have already given us a good idea of what the phone will likely look like. But this is the first time we've seen one such device powered on. There isn't much to see, though there is a slightly modified Passbook icon on the homescreen that appears to feature a red tab with a credit card logo on it. Considering the numerous rumors that Apple will unveil a mobile payment system at this week's event, an updated Passbook app seems likely. Also of note is that the added screen real estate allows for one additional row of icons.

While these images appear legitimate, there will still be plenty to see on Tuesday when Tim Cook is expected to take the stage and unveil the next iPhone and the "iWatch." Alongside this 4.7-inch model, rumors suggest the company will debut a larger, 5.5-inch version as well.
