Sony Confirms PS4 is Heading to China

But will it beat Xbox One to market?

Sony has announced it's planning to launch the PS4 in China following the country's decision to lift its 14-year console ban.

The company plans to team up with a Chinese company called Shanghai Oriental Pearl Culture Development (OPCD) in order to manage local manufacturing as well as sales, licensing and distribution.

Just last month, Microsoft announced it's planning to launch the Xbox One in the country this September. While Sony hasn't set a release date, there's a fairly interesting factoid to consider. Microsoft is enlisting the help of Chinese company BesTV for its endeavor, with BesTV being part of the Shanghai Media Group... as is OPCD.

Sony's announcement unsurprisingly stresses the joint enterprise "will introduce quality, healthy games that are suitable to China's national conditions and the preferences of domestic players, as according to the relevant government policies," so expect censored games forming part of a much smaller library.
